Backing should be 8 " longer and 8" wider the the quilt top
Yes if the backing pieces are seamed remove the selvage edge. Us a 1/2 seam and press open. This will result in a much flatter seam
When piecing your backing together use the largest pieces on the sides.
I cannot guarantee that it will be centered top to bottom when complete due to batting and stitch density
Yes, the top and back should be fully pressed , with all seams pressed flat
Mark the quilt top and backing top with a safety pin
Assure all seams are secure. If your quilt is borderless stitch around edge 1/8"
No do not attach the pieces in any fashion. The individual components will be loaded on to the quilting frame separately
Trim all threads poking through to the front of the quilt top as well as excessive threads from the underside of the top (these may show from the top when quilted)

It is generally fine to to wash your quilt in a home washing machine, though for a very large quilt you may need a commercial size machine.
To wash a quilt, use cold water and a mild detergent that is free from perfumes, brighteners and bleach. Run the machine on a short gentle cycle. To keep color bright you can add half a cup of vinegar to the wash cycle
Quilts are heavy when wet. Try to support its weight so the threads do not pop. It is OK to partially dry a quilt in a home dryer. It is best to lay a quilt flat on a drying rack. Some people like to finish drying their quilt outside on the grass on a sunny day.
NO do not iron your finished quilt
